A Poppy to Remember

Today, I'm posting about something a little different...

In September 2014 I went on a girls trip to London, and whilst doing the essential tourist things; afternoon tea in Harrods, cocktails on the balcony at the OXO tower, and shopping in Covent Garden, I was lucky enough to go to the Tower of London to view the ceramic poppies made as a mark of respect for each of the 888,246 soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War Named 'Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red'. The mass display of poppies was breathtaking and I felt moved as I stood and admired the volunteers laying each individual poppy by hand.

As a gift to myself and my two sisters, prior to going to London, my mum ordered a ceramic poppy for each of us to treasure. When the poppy arrived in January 2015, I knew I wanted to do something special with it to display it in my home so I decided to have the poppy framed. I took my poppy to a local framing shop, shared my ideas and asked if it would be possible to create. Luckily for me, they had already framed a poppy from a previous customer so I viewed the piece and knew I wanted something very similar. This was the result...
